The End

Well I tried, couldn't have done much more but it is obvious that there is no requirement for our tours. I have decided that there is no longer any point in flogging an dead horse, the tour business is to close. It is very disappointing. a lot of effort went into setting it up but there is no point running tours without tourists.

Been a bit of an uncertain period at work regarding the future, things look ok for the next couple of years but who knows? I decided late last year to look at setting up my own wee venture, this blog is to let you know how i'm getting on. My plan was to set up a walking and photography tour in St. Andrews, this then grew to customised tours in Fife and wild life tours. The photography element will be just guidance as i don't feel comfortable with teaching people how to use their cameras however I will carry out specific commissioned photographs. Walking Tour I have completed the route, written up the history and tales i'm going to tell, found the best 'non tourist' positions for photos. The tour is planned to last about 4 hours and will take in most of the centre of St Andrews. Wildlife and Walking Tour

Well it has been a busy couple of days. On the 27th I a most enjoying Wildlife Tour. Unfortunately the weather was against us, very heavy rain, at one point it looked like the day may be a washout. My guest had requested trying to see a woodpecker, not always the easiest birds to find, we were lucky, I know of a few places where we are likely to see one, it paid up trumps, the picker arrived about 5 minutes after we had, it landed on a stump about 3 feet from us, stayed there for about 30 seconds the flew onto a nearby tree where we were able to watch it doing what it does naturally,  peck wood. In all we saw over 30 different birds and animals. Not too bad for a wet day. Poor response

Now you think that when you offer something for free that folk would bite your hand off, nope, well sometimes folk can be a bit suspicious of free stuff. Then you would hope that local business would want to help and support other local business, especially when in the same sector and would compliment their own business, nope again........ 2 weeks ago I emailed 14 local hotels to offer a complimentary hoteliers walking tour, I told them that I couldn't expect them to recommend our services if they don't know what we are offering. I got one response, just the one, a very positive response though wanting to send 2 of their staff on the tour. On Monday I emailed them all again with a gentle reminder, still no response, nothing. I find it very disappointing that they couldn't spare 30 seconds of their time to respond. I am trying to promote the St Andrews Area for all and not just rely on the ones who come to play golf.
